We welcome any high school level students within the SCC team boundaries which serve the coastal range of schools including but not limited to PCS, Santa Cruz High, Harbor, Soquel, Aptos, Charter and home-schooled students along the Hwy 1 corridor.
Pre-season rides starting in November. These are no-drop rides and give kids a chance to meet others on the team. There are no try-outs to make the team, and no experience required. Practices are typically Tues/Thurs 4:15-6:15pm/Saturdays 9-noon December - early May.
Our kids will spend some days casually riding trails with friends and other days participating in structured training workouts. Our high school team participates in 4 regular season races throughout Northern CA and all riders should plan to attend at least 2 of these races. There are races for all skill levels, but we recognize not all kids want to race. Those who don't wish to race, are not required to race but are expected to attend the race and cheer their teammates on throughout the day.
We welcome 7th & 8th graders to join us 2 days a week starting in January. Practices are typically Wednesday & Saturdays. Our middle school team focuses on adventure, skill building, etiquette, stamina and safety.
Meeting Location and details TBD. Most rides will be at UCSC and Wilder. Start times may vary during the week depending upon location, but will start between 4 and 4:30 on Wednesdays and 9am on Saturdays. Wednesday practices will run 2 hours and Saturdays will be 3 hours.
We do also encourage our kids to head out to the races and give them a shot. This is not required of our middle schoolers, but it can be a really fun entry into the world of racing.
We are a family-oriented mountain bike team encouraging parent participation. All coaches are adult volunteers that undergo league background check and certification. We ride with the students to guide them safely to locations such as Wilder and UCSC for practices.
Your coaches volunteer because they love cycling and encouraging youth cycling, teaching skills and mentoring. Riding with the team is fun for the kids and adults.
If you are interested in helping coach, please Contact Us via our information form. All parent and ride leaders must be registered and pay a $25 NICA fee + $38 background check ($11/yr. after that) more info.
Fees are estimated from 2023 sponsorship and costs. Some fees are mandatory to cover league costs, and team fees are collected to ensure the viability of the team infrastructure.
$150 = NICA and NorCal league registration (goes to those organizations for secondary insurance and
races) Individuals/families are responsible to register and pay these fees. Due before first practice in December.
